Successfulnessism

"When can you say that you are truly successful?" -one of the questions i ask whenever i interview an applicant.
\
Of course the answer to this question is subjective. Fresh grads say it is when they graduate and find a stable job asap. yuppies say it's when they have their own car, house and lot, and able to buy whatever they want. married people say it's when they can be a good provider to their family and at the same time be happy with their career. Some say you can never actually achieve success since is a continuous process.
7
I guess i have to agree with all of them. One thing i learned from life is that success depends on your relationships and achievements. I truly (ever) value my relationships... this gives me the happiness and joy when things around me get rotten. My achievements on the other hand, are of course a big part of it as well.. but then i think it' s more on relationships that really counts.. people around me suffer from broken relationships and unforgiveness. marriages that break up and people passing away lately have allowed me to sometimes reflect if i AM successful right now..
6
how bout you? (kunyari interviewhin kita: Looking at your life right now, can you say you are successful?)

Aside from my relationship with the Lord, here are the other things that make my life successful:

Inventory Part 2, Etc.

I'm super loaded this week and will be even more swamped with work next week. Anyway, here are my thoughts lately: (i'll just try to squeeze everything into one entry):
\
THOUGHT NO. 1 I was listening to a Christian radio station last week and i heard from the news that Christians in China and Bangladesh are being persecuted and they don't have the freedom to worship the Lord anymore.. this made me realize how blessed i am to be able to go to Church or cell groups or any other religious gatherings without having to worry of going to jail. I hope all Christians would pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering right now.. that their faith in the Lord remain especially at these times
/
THOUGHT NO. 2 I wonder how it would feel to be married and at the same time be a mom.. my friend, Lisa, is getting married this saturday and again..... i can't help but imagine how it would be for me... idealist kasi ako ko eh.. as much as possible, i wana be a full time mom someday. but then again, with today's economy, both parents usually have to work to be a good provider.
/
THOUGHT NO. 3 Last Saturday, we went back to our warehouse in Cavite to do some more inventory.. aysus, i ended up counting these!!!!!!!! ang ganda nga ng kamay ko eh.. very clean ang dating..color gray...

Mcdo!

mcdo rainy day
\
When i was a kid, going to mcdo or jollibee (although i hate jollibee right now) was a big deal for me. I guess it's the same until now for any kid! I dunno why but these 2 have such an appeal for kids that they're everywhere!
\
Nways, i went thru some old stuff and look what i found! 80's mcdo giveaways!!! hehe.. la lang. they don't make it this nice no more coz they usually have toys free for happy meals. and it's no longer mcdo characters but mostly cartoon characters (pooh, hello kitty, snoopy, etc.) I found coasters of grimace and ronald, this purple grimace box thingy, a mayor maccheese mug, sundae eraser, pencil case, chuvaness. It's funny how they look weird.. ang pangit pa ng mga drawings!
Until now, i still love mcdonalds. when i'm far from home and i see one, parang feeling ko mabubuhay nako. kung may mcdo sa province or out of the Phils, ok na ako! YEAH! Hmm.. so what other stuff were you able to keep?

Ayaw ko sa ulan.. pwamis!

It's been raining for 'bout 3 days (sometimes at night or early morning or lunch..or merienda.. blah, blah, blah!) I get depressed when it rains. i dunno why.. i guess i'm one of those people whose hormones are triggered by the rain. pag ganito na ang view from our pantry window, i panick.ever since i was in preshcool, i hated it when it rains. It's so hard to get in the school bus and no garden play for me. when i was in grade school, i even hated it more coz our Christmas program was ruined aaaaaaand! it feels gross staying inside a school bus or cab after running in the rain... tapos super hirap pa mag-commute tapos ang dali ko pa magkasakit! i swear, a drizzle for like 8 seconds makes my nose runny and my throat dry. When it rains, important events can't push thru coz people are stranded anywhere and the venue gets all messed-up! sheesh, i can think of so many things that's real negative about the rain.. but then again, it has some benefits. (er, wala lang akong maisip ngayon) Rain, rain go away! Come again another day...

My Weekend

Last weekend, I was so glad to finally get a "break" from work (actually, EVERY weekend pala yun!) My friend, shai called me at 8AM and told me she's surprised that i wasn't in line. I asked her, "In line for what?" and she didn't say anything. Then it hit me!! Book 6 was out! daym! i got worried and restless since i didn't have a reservation. I also called up watson and texted some avid fans of HP to check if they had theirs already. GRRR! When i got to the office at 8:30, fisherpau had hers already. then nick came at around 11am and showed me a bag of natio with something inside. (hmm, anu kaya yun) So i finally went to national glorieta to get my copy. I think they had enough stocks for everyone even if there were like 4 of us in line buying the same book. i also noticed that they had to refill the shelves every 5 minutes. The book's thiner than book 5 and costs PhP 1,499.00. I got a 10% discount that day. . dunno if they still do this week...
The next day, it was my turn to be a Teacher Dessa again at sunday school so i told them the story of Gideon and how he obeyed God when he destroyed the statue of Balaam. nways, there wasn't any outrageous hirits but then as usual, it was crazy!!! hehe... and fun at the same time though. we did some coloring and fingerprints. after the worship service and my class, noel texted and told me to meet him and his cousins in town since they wanted me to with them to EK (or maybe it was his tita who wanted me to come so i can babysit his younger cousins) either way, i'm still glad i came. EK was closing for the season and only a few people were there. This was definitely an advantage since we got to go on almost all the rides (except for the space shuttle - pwede ko shang ikamatay) even thrice on each one! =) None of us brought a phone or camera coz we might lose it during the ride. It was drizzling a bit but it was ok. Here are my comments on EK on it's 10th year:
-maybe i should wait another 10 years 'til i ride that roller coaster
-their war games thingamajig had surots on their protective gear (boo got all these red spots all over)
-the rio grande is the best but then they should consider changing the water
-log jam still gives me a heart attack on the last dip
however, i'm glad there's a cool theme park like EK here in the philippines. kahit papano, it's something different from all the other parks we had here in the past.

Todo-Inventory na 'to!

Last Saturday, my group was assigned to major inventory in our warehouse at cavite. As early as 8:30 AM, people came in and teamed up in pairs to start counting. Watson (who was purely a volunteer--- mwah!) was my partner and we were TEAM 1!!! yeah! go TEAM 1! (nyerk) Our warehouse is huge and i was worried we won't finish by sunday--they planned to work until morning. helr? o diba at lahat yan ay bibilangin namin, bubuksan isa-isa ang kahon, lalagyan ng sticker, ibabalik sa kahon, pagkatapos isisigaw ang serial number. actually,si watson lahat ang gumawa nun. i did all the listing and sometimes placed the green and pink sticker on the box or the equipment itself. Then fisherpau came in the afternoon and teamed up with watson and i. yey! this acitivity was fun coz different people from different deparments joined. it took us the whole day to complete this task and we finished at around 11:00 PM. some people stayed until 12am! (mga bayani ito) we decided to go home since ang bagal na namin magbilang. another good thing about this acitivity is the food!!! foody! ang daming food! here are some things you would hear if you joined our inventory:

1. MAMA-ECHO-SIERRA-FOUR-TWO-CHARLIE-ALPHA (mga serial number)
2. Um, anong page na kayo? kasi kami page 7 na eh (padaminhan ng pages na natapos 'to)
3. tut-tut-tut! (aatrasan ka ng forklift)
4. break time na!
5. PC one burger please!
6. may size 5 pa sa stock 3972 na orange?
o diba? yung iba walang sense talga. feeling mcdo or sm

here is a pic of a fatty me counting away with stickers and making poses sa forklift (ehehehehe) watson is my photographer kaya wala kaming pic parehas. i think he and fisherpau will be blogging this one too, though:

Jesus Power!!!

Some verses to share:
\
For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)
\
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23)
\
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
\
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9)
\
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord (Acts 3:19)
\
Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

Neat-Freak

When i was a teenager, one could say i was a 'neat-freak'. When i got to college, i even considered myself with OCPD (obsessive compulsive personality disorder) due to this overwhelming urge to keep things organized nad neat. After graduation, i always bragged that being organized was one of my strengths. Argh!
/
And theeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnn... i got busy. too busy to fix my stuff and my table. drat. now i don't have time to be oc-oc anymore. i'm starting to know my mess and be comfortable with a gross-looking table. every time i go home, i just shove everything inside my overhead cabinet and take it out the following day. My desk is really gross.. kulang nalang bad smell, you have a complete picture of a dumpsite. haaaay... when oh, when will i get a chance to fix this? feeling ko tinatamad nako magpakaorganize. mid-year evaluation is coming up and i'm so sure my boss will point this out to me... waaaaaa!

This post is dedicated to my little sister, Rona. I am feeling sentimental right now because for the first time in my life, she is moving out. (She's not getting married,'no! huwag po!) She got a job in one of those industrial plants farfaraway in the south. When she told me she applied for a job in Batangas, i never took it seriously. I mean, really. Will she actually WORK there?! halur!

But then she DID decide to move there... =(... after more than 2 decades, i will wake up in our room without her there... My parents bought her stuff so she can move in her new apartment with 2 other girls who would work in the same jap firm. drat. she's really moving! (she doesn't check my blog so ok lang magsenti si ate) i will miss going out with you after work.. kahit less gastos sakin yun..haaaay..
/
Although she'll be home every weekends, i'm going to miss her... take care, lil' sis. pag may nang-away sayo, sasapakin ko! God bless your career! Magpakasaya at magpakayaman ka! tapos ibili mo kami ni noel ng bahay, ha????!!!

Still Teacher Dessa

Although i stopped teaching for more than 3 years, i still believe that i am TEACHER DESSA. At church, one of my ministries is to teach Sunday School at the kids dept. Unlike my old students at Prep Camp, i now handle primary level (6 to 7 years). Sunday School teachers get to teach once a month so we're all on rotation.
/
Every 3rd sunday of the month, i get a little bit of this:
/
1. teacher dessa: ok, check ko nga kung nakinig kayo. sino ang mother ni Jacob and Esau?
student: um, teacher.. pwede mother nalang ni Jesus? (so si mary lang ang natandaan nilang mother..ok now...)
/
2. teacher dessa: isa pa, when Jesus got upset at the temple becuase people were cheating and selling all sorts of animals to be offered, what type of bird were they selling?
student: chicken!
teacher dessa: um, starts with letter "D"
student: duck!
teacher dessa: sige na nga. pwede na rin. the answer is dove (diba pang tropang-trumpo kami?)
/
3.teacher dessa: draw pictures that show you are obeying God
-most of the students drew pictures of them praying, brushing their teeth, sharing, cleaning their room, etc.
- ito ang winner: he drew a picture of people with tanks and guns, shooting each other with bullets and blood. when i asked him why did it show obedience to God, he simply pointed to the dead people and said: "teacher, kasi masama yan mga yan eh. so ok lang barilin"... my gulaaaaay! of course i had to talk to the mom...

Last Sunday, we did a simple father's day art. Here are some pictures:

Multiple Personality Disorder

dessagirl disorder 2005-004: MULTIPLE PERSNALITY DISORDER
halur! may kilala ba kayong weirdo? ito siguro ang pinaka weird na tao kasi iba-iba sha. parang monstur! read along my krung-krung research here:

Multiple personality disorder (MPD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by having at least one "alter" personality that controls behavior. The "alters" are said to occur spontaneously and involuntarily, and function more or less independently of each other. The unity of consciousness, by which we identify our selves, is said to be absent in MPD. Another symptom of MPD is significant amnesia which can't be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. In 1994, the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV replaced the designation of MPD with DID: dissociative identity disorder. The label may have changed, but the list of symptoms remained essentially the same.

Memory and other aspects of consciousness are said to be divided up among "alters" in the MPD. The number of "alters" identified by various therapists ranges from several to tens to hundreds. There are even some reports of several thousand identities dwelling in one person. There does not seem to be any consensus among therapists as to what an "alter" is. Yet, there is general agreement that the cause of MPD is repressed memories of childhood sexual abuse. The evidence for this claim
has been challenged, however, and there are very few reported cases of MPD afflicting children. (lifted from: http://skepdic.com/mpd.html)

so there... weird no? these people usually wake up in a different place and can't remember what happened. sila yata yung mukang napopossess.. there are times when an adult becomes a kid, a girl becomes a guy, a shy person becomes a killer.. stuff like that. so there. sa office yata namin maraming ganito eh. harharharhar! isa na ako dun!!! hala!!! dessa girl by day and _____by night! back in college, i leanred that there was this person who had hundreds of alters (yun yung iba-ibang personalities sa loob niya) that he doesn't know hus dominant anymore. so do you know anyone with possible MPD?

this is my sister and i doing our version of having a different alter:

Summer 2005

white beach
My late summer getaway: 'went back to Puerto Galera, White Beach after 2 years. I went on a 3-day trip a couple of weeks ago with my boo and church friends. It was such a relaxing trip coz we went there from monday to wednesday so the beach wasnt that crowded as compared to weekends. I think each one should always include going on vacation in their schedule. In the 3 days that i was away from work, it felt really good to recharge and be with great people. We were so happy to be there that we were out in the sun even at 12noon! Although the beach isn't that nice compared to bora (as those hus been dr say..) and i think this is definitely a lot cheaper than going all the way to see the polvoron sand of bora. i had loads of fun because of the people i was with. we stayed at this inn:Rooms are at PhP 1,500.00 for 4pax during weekdays. i think this is for at PhP 2,500.00 during weekends
IMG_0151
Here are some of the stuff i did:
1. EAT! - one shouldn't go on a diet when on vacation. yummy kebabs are for PhP 90.00
mel's treat
2.have my hair done: corn rows are pretty popular there. this will range from PhP 130.00 to PhP 250.00 depending on the number of rows you have
corn rows
... so my sister, boo, and joy had theirs done too..
my boo and my sis
3.swim a lot!! even if i really don't know how..
IMG_1170
4.go on a banana boat~~~~ which i think i won't be doing in 3 years. i fell 10 times and my body ached. they charge you for PhP 150.00/pax for 25 mins
untitled2
5. go snorkeling. this is PhP 200.00/pax inc. of boat ride and gear
IMG_0113
6.get a cute glitter tattoo. this is for PhP 150.00. if you get a bigger one, it's around 200
IMG_0079
henna with glitter\
7.play with kids who sold popsicles. this is only PhP 10.00 with ube, cheese, chocolate flavor.heehee
IMG_1180
so it's not that bad. round trip costs around PhP 500.00 inclusive of bus ride and boat ride. nway, i even managed to get a tan even if i didn't intend to. BANANA BOAT brand sucks. coppertone25 though has always been reliable for me. another thing about going to beaches like puerto is that you can wear your 2-piece and look like ur pregnant and people wouldn't really care that much (except maybe for your friends who are so honest with me)..
