Prep Camp

Visisted PREP CAMP 2 weeks ago. i used to be a pre school teacher and this was my first job. the school has a new building and it looks great! it was a surprise visit. sayang nga, was not able to document it. my phone got busted and my dad was waiting for me outside so i was in a rush.. i said hi to the teachers and visited one of sheka's class.. this is the only pic i took. after that, my camera stopped working.. =(
.
i miss teaching so much.. i know this will still be my calling after many years in the corp world.. i wish i could go back to my classroom with my old students (who are probably in 6th grade right now) and just stay in for a rainy day...

Kids Camp

last friday and saturday, Christ's Church in BF Homes sponsored a kids camp. since i had to work Fridays, i took a leave last sat to be one of the staff. aaaaaannddd.. i am the GAME MASTER!!! hehe.. during fun time, we played lots of games: sack race, bring me, trip to jerusalem, wacky worm, mathematical boat is sinking, relays, newspaper dance, etc. the games were pretty simple and traditional but the kids had so much fun! they didnt get tired at all kahit mejo yung mga teachers ay todo pawis na!

the camp was held inside the worship hall so kids didnt really go out under the sun. they had skits, arts and crafts, lectures on establishing their quiet time, Bible reading, and prayer. you'd be surprised how fast they learn.. then they were also taught how to look up verses in the Bible.. wish i got to go to camps like this.. i started joining church camps when i was already 14. oh well.. nways, here are some shots i took..

they were having breakfast when i arrived at 8am
.

the tents they set up inside.. hehe..

an intermission they insisted doing: "one way! Jesus! You're the only one that i could live for!"

All we like sheep...

Take a look at my student's artwork. we had a lesson of how God appointed king david when he was just a kid and looking after sheep.. for our art, i made them glue the pieces together to form a sheep. ang cute 'no? nakakatawa yung green na sheep sa lower left.

Honesty

our hand prints
1
A few Sundays ago, it was my turn again to be Teacher Dessa for Sunday School. Nways, We did some handprints.. it was fun since they took turns and didnt do it all at the same time...this is a lot neater. Nways, as usual, meron nanaman magagandang hirits. but my favorite is this one:

Teacher Dessagirl was standing next to this smart-mouth kid.. my butt was directly behind her face so when she turned:

Student: Teacher, parang lumalaki yung pwet niyo! (Siyempre she did not mean any harm (?) )

Teacher Dessa: Um, talga? Oo nga eh.. (Sobrang shocked ko ay hindi ko alam ang sasabhin ko!)

Student: Oo, ang laki eh!

Grabe na ituuuu! It's weird.. i am well aware that i gained 20 lbs even if i have been trying to lose weight for 2 years now.. but when this kid said it, parang sobrang ~OUCH! i guess i know kids really tell the truth.. =( sobrang depressed ko, maybe i'll just have some choklits in a while.. (i know, i know!) ito ang mga pictures nila. hulaan niyo nalang kung sino jan ang mabait na nagsabi nun. pero ganun paman, masaya pa rin ako most of the time pagkasama ko sila.. wehehehe! i like being a kid..

Successfulnessism

"When can you say that you are truly successful?" -one of the questions i ask whenever i interview an applicant.
\
Of course the answer to this question is subjective. Fresh grads say it is when they graduate and find a stable job asap. yuppies say it's when they have their own car, house and lot, and able to buy whatever they want. married people say it's when they can be a good provider to their family and at the same time be happy with their career. Some say you can never actually achieve success since is a continuous process.
7
I guess i have to agree with all of them. One thing i learned from life is that success depends on your relationships and achievements. I truly (ever) value my relationships... this gives me the happiness and joy when things around me get rotten. My achievements on the other hand, are of course a big part of it as well.. but then i think it' s more on relationships that really counts.. people around me suffer from broken relationships and unforgiveness. marriages that break up and people passing away lately have allowed me to sometimes reflect if i AM successful right now..
6
how bout you? (kunyari interviewhin kita: Looking at your life right now, can you say you are successful?)
6
Aside from my relationship with the Lord, here are the other things that make my life successful:

Still Teacher Dessa

Although i stopped teaching for more than 3 years, i still believe that i am TEACHER DESSA. At church, one of my ministries is to teach Sunday School at the kids dept. Unlike my old students at Prep Camp, i now handle primary level (6 to 7 years). Sunday School teachers get to teach once a month so we're all on rotation.
/
Every 3rd sunday of the month, i get a little bit of this:
/
1. teacher dessa: ok, check ko nga kung nakinig kayo. sino ang mother ni Jacob and Esau?
student: um, teacher.. pwede mother nalang ni Jesus? (so si mary lang ang natandaan nilang mother..ok now...)
/
2. teacher dessa: isa pa, when Jesus got upset at the temple becuase people were cheating and selling all sorts of animals to be offered, what type of bird were they selling?
student: chicken!
teacher dessa: um, starts with letter "D"
student: duck!
teacher dessa: sige na nga. pwede na rin. the answer is dove (diba pang tropang-trumpo kami?)
/
3.teacher dessa: draw pictures that show you are obeying God
-most of the students drew pictures of them praying, brushing their teeth, sharing, cleaning their room, etc.
- ito ang winner: he drew a picture of people with tanks and guns, shooting each other with bullets and blood. when i asked him why did it show obedience to God, he simply pointed to the dead people and said: "teacher, kasi masama yan mga yan eh. so ok lang barilin"... my gulaaaaay! of course i had to talk to the mom...

Last Sunday, we did a simple father's day art. Here are some pictures:
